John Gannon

I am a captain with my fire dept in Virginia. I have been in the fire service for 23 years. After an accident where a car crashed through my accident scene killing the woman standing next to me I was diagnosed with PTSD. A long time sufferer of depression and anxiety, mostly from childhood trauma and genetics, I struggled really bad. Until I found help in therapy and creating my own path. I am now the leader of my departments peer support team and an advocate for mental health in the fire service. I teach at conferences on mental health and highway safety and take every opportunity to normalize the growing mental health problems we have in the fire service.
